Cartoner

A cartoner is a machine used in the packaging industry to automatically form, fill, and seal cartons (boxes).

It’s a critical component of the packaging line, particularly in industries like pharmaceuticals, food, beverages, and cosmetics, where quick, reliable, and consistent carton packaging is required

How Works

Erect Carton

The flat carton is opened and formed into a box shape

Load Product

Products are loaded into the open carton

Seal Carton

Fold dust flaps, closure panel and tuck-in flap

Applications

Pharmaceuticals

For packaging medicine, blister packs, or vials, cartoners ensure tamper-proof and secure packaging, often with features like tamper-evident seals

Food and Beverages

Used for cereals, snacks, beverages, and confectionery, cartoners form and seal cartons for easy distribution and display

Cosmetics and Personal Care

Cartoners pack cosmetic items, toiletries, and personal care products, ensuring aesthetic and functional packaging

Consumer Goods

For items like electronics, home goods, or apparel, cartoners provide consistent, secure, and quick packaging

Different of Cartoning Orientation

Top Load (Vertical Cartonor)

In a top-loading carton machine, products are loaded into cartons from the top.

Ideal for packaging any product that will fall due to gravity.

Advantages: Small footprint, low cost, suitable for quickly packaging small items.

Disadvantages: Different products require different molds, and mold changes take time.Molds also increase costs.

End load(Horizontal Cartonor)

In an end load cartoner, the product is inserted into the carton from the end or side of the box.

It is very stable and suitable for packaging many kinds of products, especially irregular or stacked ones.

Advantages: Fast packaging speed, high production efficiency, molds suitable for products of different sizes.

Disadvantages: Relatively high price and need more space.

Continuous Motion

In a continuous motion cartoner, the machine operates in a continuous flow without stopping, meaning the carton is constantly moving through the different stages of the process (forming, filling, sealing).

It boasts higher speeds, but also a higher price and requires maintenance costs.

Interval Motion

In an intermittent motion cartoner, the machine pauses periodically during the packaging process to allow for product insertion, sealing, or other tasks. After each stop, the carton moves again, and the cycle repeats.

It’s stable and affordable. The only downside is the slower packaging speed.
